Washington County: One

Youth
Focus Team
The mission of Washington County: One Community Youth Focus Team is
to encourage the youth of Washington County to develop the skills,
abilities, and self-respect that will enable them to have a positive
sense of place and an effective voice in a responsive community
The Washington County: One Community Youth Focus Team believes that
Washington County’s youth are its greatest – and most endangered –
asset. To protect and nurture this asset, the Youth Focus Team
will promote leadership development, positive adult role modeling
and communication and access to healthy activities. Stay tuned for
the results!

Projects
Youth Leadership Program - The Youth Focus Team was awarded
funding to develop a Youth Leadership Institute and build capacity
with local youth serving organizations. The Team is working with
multiple organizations within the county to develop curriculum that
will strengthen Washington County youth’s leadership skills and
provide them with the knowledge that will enable them live healthy
lives. The goal of this project is to develop a county wide program
that will help youth build the necessary skills to become the next
generation of leaders in the local communities and Washington
County. The program is in the early stages of development and when
complete will be available to youth from middle school through high
school. A comprehensive, place-based/project based curriculum will
be developed that engages middle and high school youth in the
natural resources, local businesses and government in their
communities and the county
Youth resource assessment - Research and map community
resources (local facilities, agencies, volunteers and programs that
offer activities to youth) that are available for youth in
Washington County.
Website development - Recruit youth as active participants in
this opportunity. In addition to locating and promoting activities
to youth, space will be developed for youth to connect and “chat”.
This on line connection will bring together youth and let them tell
their stories, from their community, from their
perspective.
Youth Advocacy Program - Explore
opportunities that build respectful open lines of communication
between youth and adults; Recruit youth as active participants of
Washington County: One Community
